This book quite literally explores what it is for human beings to suffer. The authors truly explore a part of human existence nurses witness every day. It does not shy away from suffering and by understanding it tries to relieve it. It recognizes the energy it takes to be a nurse caring for suffering and dying patients and how painful this can be. This book is an excellent resource for any nurse working in a setting where palliation and hospice are within the patient's trajectory of care.

Great book, though when you read about the pain chapter, it makes you realize how much has changed in the last 10 years.
