It's written in narrative style, but bounces around from picture to picture, page to page... you'll give yourself ADD by the time you finish a chapter.Simple instructions are written out narrative-style, and backwards. Example: "click the Conditional Formatting button in the Styles group within the Home tab." How about: Home > Styles > Conditional Formatting. That's 10x easier and won't give your brain a stroke trying to read.Also, the homework questions use terminology that may or may not be used in the chapter, but it certainly isn't found in the index or the end of chapter summary, or table of contents. So you end up flipping through the entire Chapter trying to find some use of this word.Example: "Open file X and make and Excel table." Well, file X looks like a table to me already. Is this a special term? It's not in the back of the book, back of the chapter, or front of the book. I'll just waste a bunch of time trying to figure out what the question is asking. Then it goes on, "what is the distribution of Y?" Well, do you want to me create my own graph; are you asking me to use a certain function? Do you even want a graph at all or a different kind of table for this "distribution"? How about just USE THE SAME TERMINOLOGY YOU DID ALL CHAPTER so I know what the question is asking!!!
I did not find this book helpful at all. It was required for a college course, taught by the author of the book. I found the explanations were not very clear. I was confused about some key terms because the author sometimes uses slightly different names to refer to the same terms. I ended up using a search engine to find useful explanations for most of the analyses and methods in order to complete the work in the book. The text constantly referred to figures and examples that were shown a few pages ahead or behind, which was annoying. Also, there is no answer key which have been extremely helpful after completing the problems to make sure the work was done correctly.
This book is organized terribly. As an introduction to Business Analytics, I now have more questions than answers.The book could make life much easier by putting logical steps into each chapter, and by directing the student to which database is needed to answer questions.Taking this book as an independent study has been hell.
This is book is truly an awful textbook. The only reason I purchased it is because it was required for my class. I found much more helpful information on YouTube, our school discussion boards and other sources. The data provided in the online data files do not match the descriptions given in the book. The layout of the book is totally confusing. It is difficult to follow when you have to go from the book, to the online data file, to a different page in the book (to look at the formulas, etc). There are not enough, fully worked examples of concepts included. I would also liked to have seen more real world examples that were worked out--stuff I could actually apply in my job. There are no sample answers for any of the problems in the book, so good luck determining whether or not you fully understand concepts. You won't know until you get your grade from your instructor. Hope our school drops this textbook.
Many errors in the book. Overpriced. Insufficient explanations. Often the questions at the end of the chapters do not match the learnings in the chapter. Be prepared to use Google and YouTube to actually learn what you need to know in order to complete the problems at the end of the chapters.
This book has typos in it! It is difficult to follow because it is poorly written. There are gaps in the explanations that leave you to figure things out for yourself. This book requires that you supplement with other things...With that said, there are probably more thorough, complete, and comprehensive resources available for your money.
Book is exactly what was advertised and came in excellent condition for use in my Business Analytics class.
This book is a bit of a tough read. Thankfully, I didn't have to read it much as my professor went over concepts thoroughly in class.
