The preface really paints a picture that got me excited to learn more about Istanbul. My good friend is from Izmir, and always brags about Turkey, but he is always biased towards Izmir, so I picked up a book about Istanbul while it was free to learn more about a city he doesn't brag about (mainly because he wasn't from there).The author clearly has a vast knowledge of Istanbul, and this was written by someone who is both fluent in English and knows Istanbul very, very well! After reading about the Galata Tower, I then had to do an image search online because I wanted to see exactly what I was reading about. My only advice is, if possible, include pictures because you do such a great job explaining everything! Although maybe you don't want to include pictures, because pictures might not do it justice :)
This is an excellent guide written by someone who knows Istanbul by heart, so you'll get genuine advice and direction, letting you discover the beauty of Istanbul with ease, its history from the Constantinople to the Modern Day Istanbul, its transportation buses, subway trains, ferries, taxis you name traveling around Istanbul can be pretty easy. In this book you'll also learn how to interact with the locals among other things such as places to eat, sleep, shop and dine and amazing tourist attractions, natures and parks. Excellent guide, I find it very comprehensive and informational.
This guide provides a nice overview of what you can do in Istanbul, however it does not contain any maps, transportation maps, or any specific details on restaurants, tour companies, etc. It will save you the few hours you'd spend searching the internet about what to do in Istanbul, however this guide only has high-level information about the city which you can easily find yourself.
Its not a guide... This book only contain a few info about Istanbul but not routs maps etc
should be more clear who this is for, needs good copy editing, better organization, but good for the author to highlight his city!
This is a great book about traveling through Isatanbul. I have not visited yet but having this guide by someone who is a local is so helpful! I like to find the little things that I might not find by staying in the tourist areas. I really enjoyed the tone of this book as well. It is casual and easy to read. The writer kept me interested with their writing style that was comforting and makes you feel ike you are talking to your best friend. This book is great at getting you excited for the travel. If you or someone you know is going to travel to Instanbul, check this out because it's a great read.
Encouraging meeting locals and enjoying time well spent seems an easy and super plane hen you read this well written book. It is a calming notion: just enjoy Istanbul as a neighborhood.
