This is a balanced look at what a rational environmentalist looks like and what the new environmentalists look like. Most of the new environmental protesters are economically illiterate and don’t understand cause and effect very well. They advocate, as the author calls them, anti human policies. Reading Moore, I see a lot of the same views he holds in my own thinking. A balanced approach is what is needed and rational minds on both sides can get it done.
Over more than forty years ordinary citizens like me have come to equate “environmentalist “ with “radicalâ€. Environmentalism seems more a religion than a science. Those of us who love the planet but still want to enjoy the fruits of civilization had nobody to guide us through the maze of myths, half truths and lies that is environmental activism. Patrick Moore is our guide and this book is his map. Readable for the nontechnical, insightful, full of common sense but faithful to the scientific method, “Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout†gives me hope the World might not soon come to an end.
IF you ever had any doubts about whether the climate change people were a bunch of left wing radicals with limited scientific basis for their claims, then Moore should give you some good talking points. As a scientist and someone who knows a lot about the environment, Moore spares no punches in lambasting Green Peace and the global warming/climate change worshipers for their misconstrued ideas.
I didn't think I'd have a lot of interest in what Patrick had to say. I was wrong.He stands up for what he believes in. I don't agree with all his conclusions and beliefs, but I cannot argue with the basic way he decides what is right. Facts, logic, and a very pro-humans-living-on-this-world measuring stick for assessing right and wrong.Some of insider stories of antics in the early days of Greenpeace are just fascinating on their own account, regardless of what your view of the bigger picture may be.
Logical and easy to read - ought to be required reading for college students. I do question Moore’s exception when it comes to whales and dolphins as the exception seems more emotional than logical.
A must-read for both left and right before we make a tragic final conclusion about global warming--woops, climate change.
Moore did a great job of explaining " the other side" of the fear mongering that we hear so much of. I am recommending it to friends. G W
