About the Author
Libby Jackson is one of Britain’s foremost human spaceflight experts, and is the Human Spaceflight and Microgravity Program Manager for the UK Space Agency. Libby’s career working in the space industry began when she applied for work experience at NASA at age seventeen from her secondary school in Kent. Weeks later she was sitting in mission control in Houston. Ten years later, and after completing a physics degree at Imperial College, she was back working at mission control for the European Space Agency in Munich. She was an instructor, a flight controller and finally a Columbus flight director on missions to the International Space Station. From 2014 to 2016, she managed the hugely successful UK Space Agency education and outreach program that supported Tim Peake’s mission.

This is 50 short essays that are mini-biographies. I love the range of different people included, from actual astronauts, to seamstress that sew clothes, scientist that design equipment, fuel, or even the activists that worked to get women and minorities involved in the space programs. I absolutely love reading one or two essays per day, and find myself often getting a bit emotional at each one as they are well-inspiring. Each of these women were pioneers and leaders that lived exceptional and extraordinary lives. I would say this is great for all ages, including boys, especially as it talks about so many aspects of the space industry beyond just the obvious things like being an astronaut.
The pictures make this look like a kid-friendly book, but the text itself is a tedious summary of a life, not an exciting story. My daughter was bored by it and I can see why.Even as biographies, these are poor. They are written with trite and biased language. They are all positive with not sense of depth to a character, flaws, or imperfection. They say things like 'she was very intelligent' but never show any examples of her being intelligent, demonstrate it, or provide any depth. So, they are shallow along with a dry tone.I liked the idea of this book, but the execution is poor.
My 7 year old granddaughter is fascinated with space these days so this book is perfect! I like the length of each of the stories and think one or two each night will make great bedtime stories. Well done!

I love space and being a woman I loved all the different stories of woman who have been involved with space. it's a wonderful read for anyone who loves space. I wish I had a book like this when I was growing up.
This is a terrific inspiring book about amazing women.
